Thermo-Hygro Meters used to be analog only until digital displays became popular and common as seen in watches and clocks, say maybe in 1970s.
It is a matter of taste now whether Digital or Analog is better. Now in late 2010s Analog types are not necessarily old fashion or legacy while Digital types are new as Digital types are so commonly seen so that people feel Digital types being new and in fashion.
Inside of Thermo-Hygro Meters
Analog
The inside is surprisingly simple. Because of this simplicity and well made of this model (German brand MINGKE) I have used this more than 15 yeas without any problem. No battery is required.
Digital
Digutal type is a electronic product. One thermo (temperature) sensor and one hygro (humidity) sensor, one IC (which is not seen as it is under the black large do)t, one LED for display.
Advantages and disadvantages
Analog
Advantages
- easy to see (no need to read, like a speedometer or oil gauge in a car front panel)
- no battery required, maintenance free.
- easy to show zones.
- many different colors can be used at relatively lower cost.
Disadvantages
- not easy to see the exact value (number).
Digital
Advantages
- usually shows down to lower than decimal pint in temp.
- can add a digital clock easily.
- can add some more information in digital form easily though wi-fi or some other wireless means.
Disadvantages
- a battery or some other power source (usually electrical) is required.
- difficult to show zones digitally.
- use of color LCD is relatively expensive.
